I have stayed at Hotel Pasumalai , Madurai . My family went this february . Its great hotel.
my review:
We were extremely pleased with our first stay at the Gateway Hotel in Madurai. Located on a hill via a winding driveway, this quiet oasis seems a world away from the insanity of Madurai.
We were greeted warmly by the staff (the friendliest of any place we stayed) and upgraded to a spacious honeymoon suite in the main building. The king size bed was extremely comfortable, and the bathroom was huge.
The property offers a number of outdoor spaces to relax, as well as a colonial-style bar (quality of mixed drinks was.. mixed), ayurvedic spa, swimming pool, game room and restaurant. The restaurant offers an expansive, delicious buffet that focuses on authentic Indian cuisine that was the highest quality of any place where we stayed. The Western food, which can be purchased a la carte, was generally passable but nothing to write home about. The restaurant overlooks the city of Madurai and offers a panoramic and unforgettable view.
Our only complaint, however, was with the restaurant, where service was very slow at times. At lunch, the wait for drinks ordered was so long (after asking twice) that we gave up and left after we saw the waiter laughing and talking on the phone instead of doing her job. Several other tables complained that afternoon as well. At other times during meals, we noticed people complaining, particularly people who ordered a la carte. However, as long as you aren't in a hurry, the restaurant quality is good, and unless you're truly sick of Indian food, you're best off with the buffet anyway.
If I ever return to Madurai, I would absolutely not consider staying anywhere else.
